If you love your “dub” in dubstep and the roots of the sound, you’ll be as excited for this as we are!

Mark Lawrence, aka MALA, is one of the most respected men in dubstep, one of the original heavyweights – an international icon of the scene!

He started his own label DEEP MEDI MUSIK after co-founding DMZ with COKI and LOEFAH. Their regular label night at Mass, DMZ, is inspired by the sound system culture that stems from dub and reggae. It has been described as one of the two most influential events in the scene. The energy at these nights has a spirituality to them, a pure connection between people and music, something well described by their slogan, “come meditate on bassweight”.

MALA is also one half of DIGITAL MYSTIKZ, a duo comprising himself and COKI. Their latest release, last year’s “Return II Space”, as well as MALA’s megaton “FUTURE BASS” 2010 single on SOUL JAZZ “Don’t Let Me Go” (the vinyl release hugged sides with FOUR TET), are testaments to both their signature sound and forward thinking production style which continue to push the genre.

Aside from the DIGITAL MYSTIKZ anthem “Anti-war Dub” and his own “Blue Notez” released on his own labels, MALA’s music has also seen release on labels like HYPERDUB and NINJA TUNE.

Rest assured. You can expect some “deep, dread-infused rollers”,”sub bass, skankin riddims and mystical melodies” and plenty of SOUL.
