Atlanta based and internationally renowned, Le Castle Vania myspace.com/castlevaniadisco, quickly escaped the local trappings of his hometown in Georgia to play music around the world. Atlanta’s burgeoning music scene allowed him to develop his passion for music and nightlife, and he gained notoriety with his riotous DJ sets and penchant for production, which made him a household name in the dirty and distorted, indie-electro scene.

Limited early bird tickets are now on sale for Friday 27th August at just R40 each, with full priced presale tickets costing R60, and limited tickets being available at the door for R90 each. Closer is a fresh collaboration between Tokyo Sky, Deconstruction, Kat Trim & Trouble Magazine.

Expect an alternative music experience every Thursday night, filled with the music we love, beautiful visuals and an electrifying venue.

We are playing with traditional formulas and mixing it up. The chemistry is volatile, the result is alchemy.

It’s a new residence for alternative music and culture in a non- traditional setting.

Each week will feature Deconstruction and guest DJ’s with a blend of visuals, art and fashion, which is all incorporated through a dance floor, an open lounge area and exhibition spaces.

“The Red Bull Studio Sessions” presented by DJ Low is a DJ mix featuring some of the best music to be made at the Red Bull Music Studio in Cape Town. It is the culmination of two years of trial and error in making the studio what it is today: a space that attempts to cultivate some of the best local music.

From the head-rocking sounds of the Little Kings, Popskarr and the Plastics, the glitch-hop infused beats of P.H.fat, Chamber Concept and Spit Munky, the soulful excursions of Fifi, Soulo Starr and Erefaan Pearce, the rumbling dubstep of Biscope and Fletcher, the slamming dancefloor techno of Grave Danger, Mervin Granger and Thibo Tazz and the unshakably catchy South African house of Audiophile 021 and DJ MX, the mix is a reflection of some of the best musical styles being brewed up in South Africa at present.

A lot of the music was made during a Third World Perspective, essentially a taste of what the famed international Red Bull Academy is like. For three days and nights, 20 music makers from around South Africa, covering all styles and genres, spent their days being lectured by international music giants such as Trevor Jackson alongside local music titans such as Sipho “Hotstix” Mabusa. But it was at night where the creativity came alive, as the participants got stuck into pooling their talents to make music.

Much of the live music on the Studio Sessions CD was recorded as the part of the RADAR project. Standing for Research-Assist-Develop-Acquire-Release, RADAR is an initiative aimed at providing up and coming bands with a space to record their music either as a demo or as an official release.

Some of the music wasn’t even completed at the Red Bull Studio. Rather artists popped in to use some of the gear and take the sounds home to complete the tracks in a space they’re more comfortable with.
To launch the CD and to commemorate two years of whirlwind creativity, the Red Bull Studio in conjunction with the Assembly, Cape Town’s premier music venue, will be hosting a meteoric line-up of artists, acts and DJs all of which have featured at The Red Bull Studio.

Hosted by dj low and featuring live performances from Soulo Starr, 7ft Soundsystem, Voicetag, Little Kings, Popskarr, Krushed & Sorted, Crosby, Spitmunky, Richard The Third and Audiophile 021 a night of mashed up musical mayhem is guaranteed.

Some of you may have heard that Johnny Foreigner will be touring South Africa this year. While this UK indie rock band may be pretty far removed from electronic music we still though it would be rad to promote it a bit here. Griet are bringing them into the country and they represent a couple of the artists on electrotrash so yeah, spread the love!

GRIET is bringing their 1st ever international band to South Africa to come and party, HARD! Johnny Foreigner are from the UK and are one of the most anticipated emerging acts for 2010! We are incredibly lucky to get them here, but a bribe to show them our wildthings in the Kruger Park seemed enough reason for them to come…

To put things in to perspective, their album is produced by the same guy (Alex Newport) who produces Death Cab, Rival Schools, At the Drive In, and The Mars Volta. Their 2008 debut album ‘Waited Up Til It Was Light’ was a major blog phenomenon and catapulted them onto the desk tops of some big-wig music bizz types…now they are signed to a fancy New York Record label ‘Best Before Records’ and have played shows like T-In the park, Reading, Leeds Fest, SXSW, Summersonic (Japan), Offset and Sugarhill festival. And they headlined tours with the likes of The Futureheads, Idlewild, the Young Knives and Forward Russia!

We will give you more info closer to the time, but what we can tell you for now, is that these shows are going to be the BIZZLE! and we hope to have as much of your support as possible in promoting the tour. The show dates are as follows:

13th FEB – CAPE TOWN
17th FEB – STELLENBOSCH
19th FEB – PRETORIA
20th FEB – JOHANNESBURG
26th FEB – RAMFEST MAIN STAGE 20:00!

In our continued attempt to bring some fun and awesomeness to the 012 (Pretoria) the VIRAL Sessions have been launched. Opening things up will be Red Eye Jedi, a stonerjam band featuring guitars and djembe’s. This will be followed by Jozi’s own ridiculously awesome Destrukto and the Cutout Collective, an electronic/alternative band that combines synths and drum machines with live drums and live visuals. To wrap things up Rick Disco & yours truly (dirtyoldman) will be bringing the bangin’ electro as the dirtyoldDisco!

Damage is only 25 rond and if you arrive before 21h30 you’ll get a free shot. There is also talk of a special (i.e. cheap) cocktail for the night. Safe parking will be available at Brooklyn Mall. So dust off those dancin’ shoes, put on those party pants and get ready for a fun night out! With your support these nights will become a regular feature in the Pretoria party scene and we will strive to bring you a variety of the countries best DJs! See ya’ll there

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past month or so, you’ve probably heard of the massive music festival known as The Urban Electric to be held on the 1st of August. For those of you that haven’t heard about it let me give you a brief rundown of what to expect.

The party starts at 2pm and will be held at the Woods in Newtown. There will be four stages, each with it’s own distinct flavour. Expect a mix of your favourite DJ’s and bands including Richard the Third, Sibot, Data Takashi, Desmond and the Tutus and Zebra and Giraffe to name just a few!

All in all you can expect to see 26 different acts, plenty of food and drink to keep you going and a great atmosphere thanks to awesome sound and lighting. And best of all it’s only 90 rond for the experience! See y’all there ya’hear!

Based in London, Trevor Jackson founded the label Output Recordings in 1996, which introduced the world to such genre defying and inventive bands and acts as LCD Soundsystem, the Rapture, Four Tet and his own project Playgroup which helped create the blueprint for present day electro.

Over the ten years that Output was in existence, Trevor helped put out no less than 100 records and the label is considered to be one of the biggest influences and driving forces behind the sound of the modern dancefloor. His DJ mix for the series DJ Kicks, is much like his own approach to making music and remixing: an eclectic mash of sounds that traverse the sonic spectrum. He is also a prolific remixer having started reworking tracks as early as 1991 for the likes of Massive Attack and U2 under the name Underdog.

Other than having such a profound influence on present day dance music with his labels output (excuse the pun), his own productions, remixes and DJ sets, Trevor is also an amazing designer, having designed and created the artwork for many of the artists released through Output. His visual art career dates back to the early 90′s with his company, Bite It!, designing record covers for acts such as the Stereo MC’s, the Jungle Brothers and Todd Terry.
