‘Funk Deluxe’ and ‘Spy Vs Spy’ were a series of events that kept the Cape Town party elite dancing Back2Back to hours of Authentic House Music. Join us on the 15th of December as Funk Deluxe and Spy Vs. Spy come together again.

Both inspired by the concept of back 2 back dj battles- these two successful event brands have taken House Music lovers on deep and intense music journeys each time they’ve graced the nightclubs around Cape Town over the past 10 years. With roots in soul moving, dancefloor destroying, Deep House- the concept sees 2 Dj’s behind the decks in a purging game of track by tack one upmanship.

More and Deluxe are two of the venues that played witness to these battles- Spy vs Spy took just two chosen ones- your solid selectors for one long set of Top Tune glory, while Funk Deluxe split neatly into quarters, giving eight players four rounds to raise the roof. The tales would be told and retold for days and weeks and months after, in an era before social media where word-of-mouth spread the movement.

Every now and then it’s nice to take a journey back to where we came from, to where a few very good stories began. This time the joining of these two events brings together 10 DJ’s that have influenced the Deep and Tech House scene- both the unforgettable icons from the original days and the music connoisseurs that rock the Mother City each weekend today.

Spy vs. Spy and Funk Deluxe bring you SpyDeluxe at Chukka Churri, 20 Coburn St Greenpoint (Corner of Prestwich and Coburn) from 9pm -until the venue kick us out- on Thursday 15 December. Space is limited so get there early to avoid disappointment and make the most of this special music line-up – it just doesn’t sound as good from the street. Friday is a public holiday and it’s FREE ENTRANCE all night!

This Saturday sees the release of new EP by Cape Town based producer and instrumentalist Shane Cooper aka Card On Spokes. The EP, entitled In You Go, features seven tracks written and produced by Card On Spokes and mixed by Sibot and Dank, two household names in the Cape Bass scene. Final mastering was done by Matthew de Nobrega, whom some of you might remember from Unit.r. Having listened to the EP on repeat for a while now, I can honestly say that it is one of the best productions I have heard this year and not just locally!

The launch is presale only and will be held at a secret location (hint, it’s not your usual venue) the details of which will be revealed once you buy a ticket. You can buy tickets either online at Quicket or from DR Pachanga  – 210 on Long Mall (Bloem Street entrance) for R50 or  R80 with a pre-order CD you’ll recieve on the night. Supporting acts for the evening are Mr Sakitumi, Hyphen, Dank, Jakob Snake and DJ Radbeatz. Besides great music, there will also be food on offer and table tennis. Hellfire will be bringing the sound and lighting so things should look and sound awesome. The launch starts at 5PM and ends at midnight, which means you party monsters out there can hit the clubs afterwards.  See you there!

Synergy Live 2011 has been billed as the event that closes the year in style, and with 100 bands, DJ’s & Comedians confirmed and Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club as main stage headliner Synergy Live 2011 has once again proven why it is a force to be reckoned with.

And it doesn’t end there! The electro outfit F.O.O.L has just been announced as headlining the electro stage! The Swedish DJ’s and producer consisting of Rasmus Hermansen and Oliver Nillsson duo have revolutionized the electronic music scene worldwide. The Music Box Stage has grown considerably over the years, featuring loads of live music and ground-breaking performances by some of South Africa’s finest musicians, producers and DJ’s. This year, with a heavy focus on cutting edge electronic and urban music we see performances by dj’s and producers serving you with only the best; dubstep, breaks, glitch, electro, hip hop, techno and drum and bass (provided by Homegrown). This time the Studio is upping the ante by bringing along the Red Bull Soundsystem, which was recently built and showcased as a part of the Maximum Signal Control event at the Assembly, which will supply the super-sonics for the Music Box stage.
