[...] Electrotrash : “Tracks range from the dark, noize assault of Jacob Israel, one of South Africa’s bright new stars on the scene, to Cape Town’s ever-popular rock machines, Taxi Violence…I haven’t heard a compilation go down so well since Garden State.” Jason D. Levi’s Original Music Mag : “Think Dust Brothers sparring with funky, raunchy rock, but home-grown.
Jason,

Thanks for the kick-ass review. And yeah, the thing about any soundtrack is that it's often a mash of genres to suit the source material.

There's an e-book edition of Moxyland due out any day now with the soundtrack embedded in the PDF, complete with suggested tracks to match selected high points of the novel (You'd be surprised at how beautifully Question X goes down with the cell phone electro-shock treatment scene in Stones near the beginning).

Hit me on moxy@moxyland.com and I'll hook you up with a review copy of the book and / or e-book.

Yo Rhett!

Same here buddy. Besides classics, rock just doesn’t do it for me either but I agree with you that it does pull a strong weight here in the Kaap.

It boggles down to a subjective view. Personally, even though the tracks are great, I still think it doesn’t flow with the album. Maybe a track with a more Industrial sound might have done it for me, something that I feel would have gone with the novels feel of devious ulterior motives and paranoia.

Keep well man.

Hi Jason,

Although I'm not the biggest fan of rock, I do think that it is definately a significant genre in CT, and as much as most of us dislike the way some of it is done, excluding contributions from these groups and thus keeping the album purely electronic would not represent the true reflection of the Cape Town music scene.

Over all a well selected, honest album from African Dope that fits the theme.

My favourite track is still from LDM, such a fresh tune.
